Life has a funny way
of changing suddenly and without warning. Sometimes you’ll be wandering along
on your daily routine then something strange and unexpected occurs that will
completely shake the foundation that your life is built upon. My life had been
a bit dismal of late but then that changed when I heard her voice, the voice of
an angel calling out for help.
I left everything
behind without a second thought, without any thought really. It would take
several days before I fully understood the ramifications of what I had done. The
realization hit me like a hammer and left me speechless for a time. I may never
be able to return home and I have nowhere in this strange new world that I
belong. I would have to make a life for myself here, somehow. I had no other
choice.
Chapter 2: A World of Difference
The stillness of the early dawn combined with the warmth of
his fleece blanket to keep Scott firmly entrenched in his world of dreams and
fantasy without consequences. He dreamed of his old life, his new life, and of
the girl he had met recently. He dreamed of many things both fantastic and
mundane. Unfortunately for the man all dreams eventually ended.
A blaring announcement echoed outward from the nearby hall.
“Good morning, good morning! It’s time for you to wake up! Get Dressed.
Breakfast is in an hour.”
Scott groaned loudly then fought off the strength draining
effects of sleep. He had to get ready. He was going to take his placement test
today. Three months of being in this helpful hellhole had worn on his nerves.
The city government had granted him entry into their placement program. This
was both incredibly helpful and somewhat humiliating at the same time. The
average age of his peers was sixteen. He was thirty. Honestly, he felt a bit
like the creepy guy who had graduated from highschool but still goes to
highschool parties.
He dressed quickly. There would be precious little time
today. The placement test was a three part exam designed to determine a proper
career. Completing the test with reasonable marks would allow the man to
undertake a work study certification course.
“Hey grandpa. Today’s the day, huh?” Scott turned to the now
familiar voice then smirked. “Morning Shawna. Same for you, huh?”
The black-haired girl smiled happily then nodded. “Yeah, I’m
focusing on trying to become a coordinator.”
“I remember. Did you ever finish that design book you said
you’d started?”
Shawna shrugged then shook her head. “Not yet. I still have
a few more designs to finish.”
“Morning perverts. Who’s hungry?” said a cocky voice from
down the hall. The chatty duo turned to see Cameron, one of their roommates.
The placement program placed people into singular apartment units that
accommodated two to eight people. Normally the students would be placed two to
a single room but those who could afford it would be able to have a private
room. Scott had a private room solely because he was much older than the other
students.
“Who’s a pervert?” asked Shawna.
Cameron snorted at her then pointed at her outfit. “When you
go to breakfast wearing a body stocking and hot pants you’re not exactly acting
all chaste and virginal.”
“Hey! This is my combat uniform you ass. Everyone wears
these things.” Shawna huffed loudly at him, an action which caught the
attention of both of her male roommates. The subtle movements of her breasts
against her skin tight body stocking were quite distracting.
Scott blinked then tore his gaze away. ‘Damn, she’s a kid you perverted bastard.’ While he understood that the legal age of
consent was sixteen in this country, he was American. Even though age of
consent varied from state to state most people considered it to be eighteen at
the minimum. A sixteen year old girl wearing skin tight clothes was jail bait
where he was from.
Shawna glared hatefully at Cameron then glanced over at
Scott. She bit her lower lip then blushed lightly. ‘Why did he look away? Am I
fat? Oh goddess, why did I pork out last night watching Coordinator Complex!’
Cameron noticed the awkwardness between his roommates then
snickered. “Seriously, he’d old enough to be your dad.”
“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?” The black haired girl
asked heatedly. She placed her fists on her hips for emphasis.
Her tormentor was about to respond but Scott cut him off.
“We should probably get to breakfast.”
The teenagers glanced over at Scott then followed him toward
the dining hall. The best part about today would be that they would be free to
live their lives after the tests. These arguments would soon be over. That was
also a point of sadness for the trio. Despite their constant bickering they had
all grown to be somewhat friends in the last few months.
On the way to the dining hall Scott was stopped by the mail
clerk. “Hey, didn’t you know you have mail?”
“Mail? I checked yesterday.”
“Probably the grandkids wanting to know how their gramps is
doing.” Cameron said cheerfully.
“No, it’s your friend in Old Towne again.” The clerk
informed Scott. “Do you want to write back? You won’t get a chance to check
your e-mail again until you get set-up at your work study course.”
“I guess I should respond.”
“Old Towne? Is it that Angel again?” asked Shawna. Her
expression moved from studied curiosity to mild annoyance when Scott shrugged.
She didn’t like secrets.
“Have you three eaten yet?” asked a booming male voice. The
newcomer walked up to the group in a confident and authoritative manner. “We
have a tight schedule today. You should eat.”
“Guess you’ll have to wait on your letter. I’m Sorry,
Scott.”
“It’s cool. I have a lot going on today anyway. Whoever it
is can wait I guess.”
With that said, the group wandered off to eat breakfast.
They would need all of their strength to focus on the task at hand. The placement tests would only guarantee that
they find employment. They had to perform well in order to find good employment.
Scott glanced up at the clock and sighed. It was only two
o’clock. The test results would not be announced for another hour. He had wandered back to his room to finish
packing. No matter what he would be leaving later this afternoon.
“All I have in the world.” He gazed down at his various toiletries and
three sets of clothes for a few seconds then began to fold them into his travel
bag. Serena’s family had paid him the small bit of money that they had put up
as a reward for her safe return and outside of tuition this was all that he
could afford. They had felt that it was the least that they could do in order
to thank him for helping to bring back their little girl.
Thinking of his worldly possessions reminded him of how he’d
garnered them. This lead to other thoughts and soon he was thinking about his
first day in this world again.
“It was a hell of a day, wasn’t it?” he asked the empty
room. The world began to fall away as he entered into a dream-like reverie
deeply recalling the events of that day…
……
The blond pokegirl wiped
sweat from her brow despite the brisk morning air. Despite the fact that she
looked like a mere slip of a thing she had a baseline physicality that was
roughly similar to an Olympic athlete from Scott's world of origin. Dragging her tormentor around
was weighing on her greatly even with her enhanced strength.
"Are you
alright?" asked the blind man as he felt her stop. Without his sense of
sight he was entirely beholden to her. If anything happened to her he would probably
die. Of course, he didn't think of that when he asked about her welfare. He was
genuinely concerned for the girl.
She smiled tentatively at the mild sound of worry in his town and said, "You betcha! We're almost to town. Then this guy will be someone else's problem."
"Man I'm glad to hear it. I'd hate to leave anyone in the woods to die, but this creep almost deserves It." remarked Scott with a sigh. He would get no argument from his nude friend.
"Yeah, I don't really want to go back but I guess we have to." she replied after a moment.
"Oh? Why not?"
The pokegirl shook her head slowly, causing her ponytails to sway back and forth. "It's the town I came from. Everyone knows me."
"Why wouldn't you want to go home? I'm sure someone has to be worried about you." replied the man with a tilt of his head.
She sighed softly. "No. I recently awakened. My parents were gonna throw me out of the house."
Scott frowned upon hearing this. It seemed like a plausible story if he really was in one of his literary creations. Humans had a tendency to treat Pokegirls like pets or hired mercenaries at best. At worst they were simply slaves that worked until they died.
Despite knowing how common her story must be if this was really the world he'd created he felt the need to respond in a humane way. She deserved to be treated better than that. "That's just wrong. You're their daughter no matter what. How could anyone do that?"
"It’s not the same. Now I'm a pokegirl." she said sadly. All of her former hopes and dreams had been dashed not long ago.
"If you hadn't come along, I would belong to this guy here even if what he was doing wasn’t entirely legal." she said softly.
Her companion frowned and nodded. It seemed like something cool to add to a story, but the reality of it was a bitter pill to swallow. He didn't think he actually created this world. However, he had gleefully written about it often enough. A world full of hot naughty female super babes that did anything you wanted? What wasn't good about that?
There was a lot that was not good about that in reality. He did not even know what his new friend looked like beyond basic shadow shapes, but he knew that she had to be injured from her fight and covered in scratches from living in the woods. She’d had a real life once. At one time she was someone's beloved daughter. Well, hopefully she had been beloved.
A thought occurred to him then, but he wasn't certain how to broach the subject. Instead he asked, "How long ago was that? You know. The awakening."

A thought occurred to him then, but he wasn't certain how to broach the subject. Instead he asked, "How long ago was that? You know. The awakening."
“About a week I guess. I lost track a little. It started to get hard to concentrate on time after a few days."
Scott did a mental calculation in his head. If another one of the things he wrote about held true then she was half way to going feral and becoming a wild Pokegirl. Depending on the kind of Pokegirl she was that could mean any of a number of outcomes.
The winged girl began to move again not long after the conversation died down. Whether she wanted to go back or not this guy had rescued her and he needed help. She felt she owed him and it was important to pay your debts.
A few silent hours passed as they traveled along. Strangely, the typical chit chat one might expect did not occur either. They had not even properly introduced themselves by the time they reached the outskirts of the town.
"We're here." stated Scott's blond companion in a soft quiet tone. The man tried to cheer her up by talking about food and other amenities. Sadly, the light-hearted banter did not really help her much.
What occurred next would prove to be both heart breaking and unbelievable. Scott had not remembered one very important item about this little pet world of his. The laws were rather biased. A patrolling Officer Jenny came across the trio as they dragged their injured captive along the dirt path leading into town.
"What happened here?" asked the blue haired Pokegirl in a voice that spoke of authority. She would have answers.
"This man attacked my friend in the woods. We need medical attention." replied Scott before he realized what he was saying.
"He assaulted you and your pokegirl put him down? We'll have to verify your story. A Pokegirl assaulting a human is a serious offense unless it really was self-defense." stated the service type Pokegirl as she gestured for them to follow her.
Scott opened his mouth again and said, "No. I knocked him out."
"Why would you do that, if he attacked your Pokegirl?" The Officer Jenny asked with a casual tone of voice but she made subtle movements of a far less casual nature.
This time his blond friend decided to try and help the situation along. "Because the Witch this guy was using was hurting me!"
The Officer Jenny stopped dead in her tracks and turned her head casually in their direction. Her voice was very calm as she asked? "Is that so? Are you saying your master deliberately attacked another human in a duel?"
Scott blinked sending a spasm of pain through his eyes. He had not been paying attention to what he was saying and now he began to get a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. The situation was going downhill fast.
"What, no. He was trying to catch me and…" began the angelic Pokegirl.
"I see. Say no more. We'll discuss this at the station." ordered the law enforcement Pokegirl as she gestured for them to walk in front of her.
They did so and were promptly guided to the police station. Once they arrived their blue haired escort instructed them to sit down. Another Officer Jenny came over to see what was going on and she nodded after hearing the story.
"Sounds like what? Interference with lawful capture, assault on a human, and damage of private property?" asked the new Pokegirl.
"So far. We'll let the psychic figure it out." remarked their former escort.
Scott did not like the sound of any of this. He liked it even less when his escort turned to him and said, "You're going to have to wait in a cell till the psychic on duty arrives. If you go quietly I won't restrain you. Your injuries are severe otherwise I would have arrested you earlier."
"Cell?" asked Scott's Angelic friend. "He didn't do anything but help me!"
"Yeah, well, that's a crime you know." remarked the pink haired Officer Jenny as she gestured for a third Officer Jenny to open the holding cell from her desk.
The man balked despite his wounds. "You can't be serious about this!"
"Are you resisting arrest citizen?" asked the blue haired Officer Jenny. She usually enjoyed it when they resisted. This was especially true of a human.
"Why are you arresting me? She was being attacked by some asshole that wanted to rape her. She isn't a feral! She has a home!" snapped the man angrily.
The Officer Jenny shrugged. "Hey, it's not my call. Are you getting in the cell or not? We'll sort all this out when the psychic gets here."
Scott was about to spit out another hate fueled sentiment when the worst possible thing that could happen, did happen. The asshole on the stretcher woke up. He had been waffling in and out of consciousness for the last hour. All the talking had brought him around completely.
"Where am I?" he asked groggily.
The blue haired Officer Jenny knelt down and examined him. "Sir, you are in the Old Towne Police station. You were brought to town by an injured man and a Pokegirl."
He blinked slowly then suddenly a hard look crossed his features. "What happened? All I remember is battling a stray Pokegirl in the woods and then, I woke up here."
"We are awaiting a court appointed psychic type to oversee interrogation procedures sir. She should arrive shortly." stated the Officer Jenny perfunctorily.
Her pink haired counterpart grabbed Scott by the arm and yanked him toward the cell. "Look, citizen, you've wasted enough of our time. Get in the cell before we add resisting arrest."
"How can this be justice?" muttered the man as she dragged him forcefully to the holding cell and shoved him in. He was thoroughly disoriented and tripped over a hard sleeping mat in the center of the cell. His outcry caused the blond Pokegirl to call out, "Hey! Don't hurt him!"
"Worry about yourself. You're going in the next cell over till we figure this out." commented their original escort.
"What? Hey!" exclaimed the girl as she was ushered to a cell. A lifetime in Old Towne ingrained obedience to the local law into her. Of course, even if she had resisted her injuries would have prevented her from doing anything useful.
The tamer who started all of this was left on the ground in the front room of the station. He wasn't able to stand at the moment and no one wanted to chance moving him further till a medical type Pokegirl arrived to repair the damage.
An hour passed before the court appointed psychic came. The police Pokegirls greeted her in a friendly manner and then moved back to let her work. The tamer was easiest to access so she began with him.
She pronounced judgment after only two minutes of scanning his memories and surface thoughts. "His name is Henry. He was attempting to make a legal capture of an unbound Pokegirl in the Ancient Forest area. He was attacked by an unseen assailant."
"Right! How certain are you?" asked the blue haired Officer Jenny.
"My skills are not in doubt. It is as I have stated."
"Ok, then. We have that much straightened out." said the pink haired Officer Jenny before pressing a series of buttons at the console she was stationed at normally. The blond Pokegirl gasp aloud as a blue light flared inside her cell. Not long after the door unlocked itself and the pink haired Officer Jenny moved inside. When she walked out she carried a small black and white ball in her hand.
"Here you go sir. She's all yours." remarked the law enforcement Pokegirl as she placed the Tek-ball containing the angelic girl into his hand.
"Heh, thanks." muttered the man as he pocketed the ball. He didn't sound particularly grateful about receiving the girl, despite the alternatives that might have happened.
"What just happened?" asked Scott from his cell. "Hey! What did you just do!" yelled Scott from his cell.
"My job, citizen." remarked the service type Pokegirl.
The psychic sighed and moved toward Scott's cell door. She stared through the small glass window in the steel door for a moment then turned away. "He's guilty of theft, assault on a human, damage of private property in the second degree, interference with the lawful capture of a Pokegirl by a licensed tamer, and illegal immigration."
"He's a foreigner?" asked the blue haired Officer Jenny in mild surprise.
The psychic Pokegirl nodded lightly. "He may be mentally unstable due to his injuries. He believes he is from another world and he came here through a glowing light in the forest."
"Right, a glowing light." agreed the pink haired Officer Jenny with a slow casual nod. He was either a dingbat or telling the truth. Either way, he wasn't going anywhere for a while with all those charges.
"Sir, you're free to go once you sign a few forms." remarked the blue haired Officer Jenny.
"Free to go? He attacked a girl in the woods!" railed Scott. He refused to believe this could be seen as legal. Even if he wrote about such laws there was no way a place could really exist that operated like that.
"He was doing his job, citiz... sir."
"Hey, what's the perp's name anyway?" asked the blue haired Officer Jenny.
The still unnamed psychic Pokegirl simple stated, "Scott."
"Good. Now sign here too." stated the pink haired Pokegirl as she directed Henry to sign his release forms. He had to sign-off on what the psychic adjudicator had determined. He did so readily since he found no reason to argue against her findings. They weighed heavily in his favor.
When the papers were signed, she informed him "You are free to take your new Pokegirl and go, sir. If the judge dictates that your assailant needs to pay restitution it will be forwarded to your bank account."
"Take his girl and go? Take his girl and go! Aren’t you even going to tell her damned parents she was found? She’s been lost in the woods for a week!" snapped Scott as he beat his fists against the steel door of his cell in blind fury.
“Wait, what? What did you just say?” asked
the psychic investigator. “I did not detect that in your surface thoughts.”
“Well, you didn’t look hard enough then!
She told me that she had recently awakened and her parents had kicked her out
for some reason. She is not a feral Pokegirl. She has a family, a family who is
probably looking for her despite what she thinks!”
"Yes. I think I will take my girl now." remarked Henry before he started toward the door. He spoke in a casual tone that was rather loud and obnoxious.
“Hold on a moment, sir. We need to verify this new information.” The closest Jenny said.
“He’s lying, obviously.
The psychic would have been able to sense all of that during her investigation
right?”
“That is true… I did not
detect that information during my search. Honestly, I was not able to get more
than general surface information. His mind is strange, difficult to navigate.”
“Right! I’ll just take
my new girl and go.”
Scott heard him clearly
and seethed for a moment before shouting, "You call this justice?!" in a
voice so loud that it penetrated the walls of the station. A nearby Tweeter screeched
in shock and flew away with surprise etched on her face. She didn't want
anything to do with a place like this.
The Officer Jenny at the main desk console shook her head and flipped the switch that sealed off his window and turned on the muting spells for his cell. They had tolerated quite enough of his ranting and raving for one day.

“Do you think he could
be telling the truth?” asked the first Jenny.
“Perhaps you should
check the missing person’s reports to see if she actually did go missing. If no
one has reported her missing then either she was abandoned and thus she was a
fair capture, or she never lived here in the first place.”
Time passed as the man beat futilely against the ell door. Eventually he wore himself out and he wandered his cell until he found the hard mattress that he had tripped over previously. It proved to be the only bit of furniture he had to work with.

Roughly an hour passed before the door to
his cell suddenly released. He blinked once in confusion causing severe pain to
lance through his skill. His eyes remained closed after that but he heard the
sweetest sound imaginable. “Scott! We’re free!”
“We’re free?” asked the man excitedly. He
had been envisioning horrible things in his near future and this was the best
thing that he’d heard since arriving in this world.
Scott blinked rapidly then turned toward
the sound of another familiar voice. “Scott it’s three. Time to go get our results.”
“Oh, oh ok.” , said the man before rising
to his feet. He had been reminiscing for an hour already?
“Wow, excited much?” asked Shawna from his
doorway. He could have sworn that he’d closed it before packing, but it wasn’t
like this was the first time that she’d simply let herself into his room.
He smiled. “Yeah, more like nervous. I
don’t know what to expect. The tests seemed simple enough but I’ve been
foolishly confident about tests before.”
“You’ll do fine. Hell, you knew things
about Pokegirls that weren’t even in the data files.”
Scott zipped up his bag then turned toward
the girl. “You’ll do great too.”
“Really, you think so?” asked Shawna. A
light blush crept onto her cheeks at the modest praise.
“Of course you will. You studied far too
hard and took this seriously. There’s no way you won’t be chosen to study under
a master coordinator.”
Her faint blush turned a deep scarlet but a
bright smile awoke upon her face. “Thank you!”
“Oh man, really? Why don’t you two just get
naked and get it over with already.”
“Shut up Cameron!”
“Whatever… are you two done eye-fucking
yet? They want us to come in together remember?”
“Yeah, I’m ready.” Scott nodded then picked
up his bag. Shawna seemed interested in arguing with Cameron and as per their
usual she did just that on the walk over to the administration building.
Scott listened in on their conversation for
a while then smiled softly. These
carefree days are almost over, huh? I wonder if we’ll keep in touch after
today.
“Oh please, just because you have a daddy
complex…” said Cameron in a snotty manner. Shawna glared hatefully at him then
turned her head to the side imperiously.
“If you’re going to be crass then I’m not
talking to you.”
“Whatever. Excuse me.” , muttered the boy
irately. He continued to receive the cold shoulder from his soon-to-be former
roommate.
“Did I go too far?”
Shawna unleashed a loud “Humph!” and
continued to ignore him. She would not allow him to apologize just yet. That
daddy complex crack had really touched a nerve.
Scott chuckled lightly at their antics. He
honestly might miss their squabbling.
They left the dorms and entered the grounds
proper. Just across the yard was the administration building. They approached
their destiny in a steadfast manner, but internally they were each rife with
uncertainty. What would their future hold? Will they find a good work study
opportunity? All that was certain for them now was that everything was about to
change.
